Cub Scouting is a program for boys in the 1st-5th grades and includes lots of fun activities like camping, archery, fishing, sports, crafts, and much more! Underlying the activities are the aims of character building, participatory citizenship, and physical and mental fitness. Pack 1680 is chartered by Faith United Methodist Church and is open to boys from all faiths from any school. To find out more about our Pack, or learn how to sign up, click here. An orientation for all new parents (or anyone else who wants to come!) will be held Tuesday, 9/13, from 6:30-7:30pm in room 153/155 of the annex at Faith United Methodist Church. (That’s the building behind the main part of the church, off Holmes Road.) We will go over the basics of Scouting, what to expect, uniforms, camping, and any other questions that may come up. If you’re new to Scouting, or have questions about the basics, then this is the meeting for you! (Note: The material will be geared towards parents of Scouts, so if possible, please leave the kiddos home for this one.)

Our first event of the year will be our annual Butterfly Garden Cleanup at Pecan Grove Elementary. This is a great thing to do for our community, our pack, and our children that attend the school. As students at Pecan Grove they have many activities there in the garden throughout the year. We (pack 1680) will clean up the garden, pull weeds, trim what needs trimming, and put down new mulch. So parents please bring only bring scout powered garden equipment such as gloves, rakes, shovels, and other weeding devices, but no power equipment. The more help the faster we can get it done and get out of the heat.
It’s been an outstanding Summer, but (so I’m told) Fall is just around the corner…and that means it’s time to get rolling on the new Cub Scout year! For 2016-17, all the fun and silliness of Cub Scouting will be back, as well as fun, new adventures to explore. Last year, we moved to a brand new Cub program, and while it was challenging to figure out how to implement the changes, we persevered and in the end, had a ton of fun doing it. This year, we’re cranking on all cylinders and it’s full speed ahead! So, tell your friends, phone the neighbors, and spread the word…the Pack is Back!
